We foster a unique creative and positive approach to ensure we engage all children.
Learning and Development
We focus our planning on childrens interests, seeding the environment with resources by closely observing schematic play. We link observations of the children to the development matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage across all 7 areas of learning. Observations are shared directly with you through the parent zone app and your child is assessed termly to measure their progress from their starting point.
Assessments
We will ask you to identify what your child can already do using the “What to expect when” booket, which will help us to find your child’s starting point. We observe your child closely from when they start with us and use these observations along with your “What to expect when” to form a starting point assessment. We use this to measure your child’s progress across all areas of learning each term.
Friendships
Your child will make lots of friends at nursery, these friendships are very important to help them develop a sense of belonging and security outside of their home. These are essential skills for school and will help them foster a positive attitude for learning in the future.
Getting ready for school
We support your child to develop many life skills ready for school. They practice being independent eg. putting on their own coat and shoes, using the bathroom without support… The children learn how to deal with friendship issues, how to share and be kind. We practice listening and taking turns plus much more. One of the most important things we learn is to ask lots of questions and find out things.
Uniform
Uniform is optional and can be ordered online from My Clothing (www.myclothing.com). Select Charlies Caterpillars Day Nursery from the list of schools. You will then see our red sweatshirt and yellow polo shirt ready for embroidery. Email info@charliecaterpillars.co.uk if you have any queries.
Arriving too early or collect too late
If you arrive early for your session you will have a short wait as early mornings the practitioners are preparing for the children’s arrvival and lunchtime we will need to wait for the morning children to leave so we don’t go over our ratios. It is important that you are on time to collect at the end of the session too as this again can affect our ratios or make the staff late going home to their own families.
